A new Multi-Body Dynamics (MBD) software product, MBD for ANSYS™ is now released. ANSYS users can access powerful MBD simulation capabilities that can simulate assemblies in motion and provide loads for structural simulations in ANSYS Mechanical™. Engineers who already use ANSYS Workbench will find this new software easy to use because it is embedded within the Workbench user environment.
MBD for ANSYS is developed by FunctionBay, the company that offers the RecurDyn™ line of standalone, high-end MBD software. Bringing RecurDyn technology to the Workbench user environment results in a powerful MBD tool for the ANSYS community.

MBD for ANSYS brings powerful Multi-Body Dynamics capability to ANSYS users
ST GEORGE, UTAH, April 15, 2015 – A new Multi-Body Dynamics (MBD) software product, MBD for ANSYS™ is now released.
“We welcome partners such as FunctionBay to add their complementary technology to Workbench using our application development tools,” said Shane Moeykens, senior manager, partnerships & alliances at ANSYS.” FunctionBay has done a nice job of creating a complete MBD application within Workbench. ANSYS users who need MBD capabilities can now do so while remaining in the ANSYS user environment.”
There are four key capabilities in this first release. First, contacts among components are easily created and the RecurDyn technology quickly solves the models. Second, an intelligent process guides the user to define load cases by selecting output points from the work cycle and the software automatically defines the static structural systems with the loads for the selected component. Third, model results can be reviewed using an MBD-specific advanced post processing tool that provides advanced animation and plotting capabilities. Finally, when additional MBD capabilities are needed the MBD for ANSYS model can be transferred to RecurDyn where controllers, belts, chains, bearings, flexible media and track assemblies can be added to the model and simulated.
“Many of our RecurDyn customers use ANSYS for structural analysis. We are impressed with the community of ANSYS users and we wanted to provide some of our MBD technology to the ANSYS user within the familiar Workbench user interface,” said Michael Jang, CEO of FunctionBay, Inc. “We appreciate the help of the ANSYS technical staff in developing our application and we look forward to a strong, ongoing relationship with ANSYS.”
“We are excited to offer MBD for ANSYS to the ANSYS community in the Americas,” said Brant Ross, President of MotionPort LLC. “We will be exhibiting at the three ANSYS Convergence conferences in the US this year as well as at the Automotive Simulation World Congress in Detroit. We look forward to meeting ANSYS users and sharing information about the MBD for ANSYS product.”
There is a special introductory offer in the Americas to “test drive” MBD for ANSYS through the end of 2015, including technical support. For more information send your request to mbd4ansys_info@motionport.com.
